How can we prepare for encounters with people in a vegetative state? For Inka Oelmann, it was very helpful to empathise with a situation similar to that of a vegetative state. She is often asked whether people in a vegetative state “notice anything at all”. Her experience is very clear – yes, they perceive their surroundings. And that is where the opportunity of working with Singing Bowls , gongs, cymbals and other sound instruments.
There are different phases of a persistent vegetative state and the services offered vary accordingly – sometimes they are more for relaxation, sometimes more for activation. It also makes a difference whether the affected person is in a home environment or in a residential facility.
On this sound evening, Inka Oelmann will shed light on some aspects of coma and sound - e.g. making contact, contact with relatives and care staff and including them in the offer, positioning the Singing Bowls for bedridden people or those in wheelchairs.
Singing Bowls will get us in the mood for the topic at the beginning and round off the evening at the end.
