In this blog post we would like to introduce you to some exercises or self-applications that you can do anywhere and at any time with the Peter Hess® Travel SingingSinging Bowl . The exercises with Singing Bowls are designed to be flexible and easy to use, even in stressful or hectic situations. They not only promote relaxation and mindfulness, but also help you to arrive in the here and now by combining simple techniques such as listening to your Singing Bowl with your breathing.
Singing Bowls 1: Body journey
-
Find a quiet place: Find a place where you can be undisturbed for a few minutes, even if it's just a small corner in the hotel room or airport.
-
Place the Singing Bowl on a soft surface: Place it on a cushion or blanket, for example, to optimize the sound. If you are out and about, simply place the bowl on the flat of your hand or on your fingertips.
-
Breathe in deeply: Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths in and out. Pay attention to arriving in the here and now. Try to let go of all thoughts that distract you and bring your attention to the moment.
-
Gently strike the Singing Bowl : The resonance of the bowl will help you to stay in the moment. Pay attention to the sound that envelops you.
-
Listen to the sound: The sound of the bowl spreads out, passes through your hands and reaches every cell in your body. You can imagine how the sound activates the hand reflex zones and stimulates the end meridian points, giving you fresh energy.
-
Focus on one or different parts of your body: For example, start with your feet and work your way up. Feel how the sound flows through your body and helps you to relax.
-
Let the sound slowly fade away: Gently open your eyes and take a moment to reflect on how you feel now. Have you noticed a change in your perception or body sensation?
Singing Bowls 2: Perception of the environment (sounds, smells ...)
-
Choose a quiet moment and place: Find a quiet spot - whether in the park, at the airport or in a café. A comfortable chair or a place on the floor is also sufficient.
-
Close your eyes and breathe in and out deeply: Concentrate on your breath and let go of all thoughts. If you like, you can activate the hand reflex zones on your hands by placing your palms together and rubbing them quickly.
-
Hold the Singing Bowl in one hand or place it on a stable surface: Strike the bowl gently and focus your full attention on the sound.
-
Listen attentively: Try to concentrate on the sound and block out all other noises. Also notice how the sound spreads and echoes inside you.
-
Awareness of your surroundings: Now pay attention to the sounds around you, the smells and the feeling of the ground beneath you. Try to be completely in the moment and perceive your surroundings without judgment.
-
Let the sound slowly fade away: Gently open your eyes. Reflect on how you feel now. Are there any changes in your perception of your surroundings?
Singing Bowls 3: Sound journey
-
Choose a quiet moment and place: Find a place where you can withdraw for a few minutes.
-
Strike the Singing Bowl : Listen to the sound that gradually spreads.
-
Visualize a peaceful place: Close your eyes and imagine the sound taking you to a calming place - perhaps a beach, a forest or somewhere else that brings you relaxation.
-
Enjoy the details of this performance: Try to connect the sounds of the bowl with your imagination. Imagine how the sound supports you energetically and allows you to immerse yourself more deeply in this peaceful environment.
Singing Bowls 4: Breathing exercise with sound
-
Sit down in a quiet place: You can do this anywhere, be it in a hotel room or in a park. Find a comfortable sitting position that allows you to relax.
-
Gently strike the Singing Bowl : Breathe in deeply while listening to the sound.
-
Hold your breath: As the sound fades, hold your breath. Feel the connection between your breath and the sound.
-
Breathe out slowly: As you create the next sound, exhale slowly. Repeat this a few times and concentrate on the connection between your breath, the sound and your body. Pay attention to how you arrive more in the moment with each breath.

Singing Bowls 5: Sound massage with the travel set for at home or in the hotel room
Recommendation: Use the thicker/softer mallet head of the double felt mallet for the universal bowl and the thinner/harder mallet head for the laryngeal bowl.
Find a comfortable place:
Find a quiet and comfortable place where you will be undisturbed. For example, place a mat or soft cloth on the floor or choose the bed. Lie on your back and find a relaxed position.
Positioning the bowls:
Place the Universal Bowl on your stomach, approximately at the level of your navel and place the Throat Bowl on your chest, directly above your heart.
Start with the first Singing Bowl:
Start with the universal bowl on your belly. Strike the bowl gently with the thicker mallet head. Let the sound resonate for a few seconds and feel the vibrations in your abdominal area. Breathe in and out deeply and evenly.
Switch to the laryngeal bowl:
Now gently strike the laryngeal bowl with the thinner mallet head. Let the sound resonate for a few seconds and feel the vibrations in your heart area. Notice how your chest rises and falls as you breathe.
Alternate strike:
Now alternate between the two bowls. Start again with the universal bowl on your stomach, followed by the laryngeal bowl on your chest. Strike each bowl 2-3 times and let the sound resonate for a few seconds. Close your eyes if you like. Pay attention to how the vibrations feel in your body.
Conclusion:
Now put the laryngeal bowl to one side, strike the universal bowl a few more times and let it fade away on your body. Enjoy the silence for a moment and then put the universal bowl to one side. Relax for a few more minutes before returning to your daily routine.
Singing Bowls 6: Mindfulness and presence in nature
-
Find a comfortable spot outside in natureOnce you have found a spot, sit down on the ground or on a bench and relax so that you can listen to the sounds of nature around you.
-
Breathe in and out deeplyClose your eyes for a moment and let your breathing become calm and even. Concentrate on your breath and become aware of your surroundings. Begin to breathe slowly and deeply. Feel how your lungs fill with fresh air and how you calm down more with each exhalation. Let the journey move you, but stay calm inside.
-
Start with the first Singing Bowl: Take a Singing Bowl of your choice and hold it in front of you. Strike it gently so that the sound rings out slowly and clearly. Pay attention to how the sound spreads and fills the surroundings. Listen to the sound and feel how it brings you into the moment.
-
Let the sound fade awayObserve how the sound slowly fades away. As the sound becomes quieter and quieter, pay attention to the other noises around you - the sound of the wind, birdsong, the rustling of leaves or other sounds that you may not have noticed before.
-
Insert the second Singing Bowl Now take the second Singing Bowl and repeat the same process. Strike it gently and let the sound spread out. You may notice that the sound sounds different or has a different quality. Feel the vibration of the Singing Bowl in your hand.
-
Alternate between the bowlsPosition the Singing Bowls in front of you and strike them alternately. Pay attention to how the sound of the second bowl mixes with that of the first. Observe whether the sounds in the air resonate with each other and how they influence your perception of your surroundings. Feel the vibrations in your body.
-
Joint soundAfter you have played with both bowls, strike them together to create a harmonious, full sound. Notice how the bowls join together in unison and how the sound continues to spread. Consciously hold on to the moment of silence after the sound.
-
Complete the exerciseFinish the exercise by striking both bowls together to create a harmonious sound. Hold this sound consciously and feel how it brings you into harmony with nature and yourself. Breathe in and out deeply.
-
ReflectionTake a moment to think about how you felt during the exercise. Did you notice a change in your perception? Were you able to connect with the sounds of nature?
-
GratitudeBefore you put the Singing Bowls away, take a moment to be grateful for the experience and the sound.
Tip: For practicing while travelling, we recommend our compact children's double felt mallets with a soft and hard side.
Singing Bowls 7: Mindfulness and sound journey
-
Sit in a cross-legged positionIf this is not comfortable for you, you can also sit in another comfortable position.
-
Place the first Singing Bowl: Place one Singing Bowl on your thighs or on the floor in front of you so that you can strike it easily.
-
Place the second Singing Bowl: Take the other Singing Bowl in your hand and hit it gently.
-
Listen to the sound: Let the sound unfold and perceive the sound as it slowly fades away.
-
Strike the second bowl: While the sound of the first bowl fades away, lightly strike the second Singing Bowl and let this sound slowly fade away as well. Repeat this.
-
Add circular movements: While the Singing Bowl is still ringing on your legs (or in front of you), now strike the Singing Bowl on your hand and make gentle, circular movements with it in front of your body. These movements should be calm and mindful. Make sure that you always circle the bowl at the same speed so that the sound remains constant and calm.
-
Feel and listen to the sounds: Try to feel the sound of the bowl and hear how it changes as you continue the movement.
-
Close your eyes: Breathe in and out deeply. Concentrate only on the sound of the bowl and the flow of the movement. Imagine how the vibrations pass through your body and bring you peace and relaxation.
-
Let the sounds slowly fade away: Feel how the room is filled with vibration.
-
End the exercise: Complete the exercise by opening your eyes and remaining in silence for a moment. Breathe calmly and evenly.
