Gongs & gong stands
Product Safety Regulation (GSPR)
These instructions on product safety serve to ensure the sustainable use of our gongs.
We source our gongs from India or our Chinese production facility, where gongs are forged from a bronze alloy using the pure metals copper and tin in a centuries-old tradition. The individual gong sizes are differentiated by diameter and vary between 0.5 kg and 35 kg in weight.
As each gong is forged and unique, certain deviations from the parameters we have defined (diameter, weight) are possible. In addition, each gong has individual characteristics resulting from the manufacturing processes. This includes, for example, slight scratches, discoloration or small carbon inclusions. However, these features have no influence on the sound character of the gong, which undergoes several quality checks before being sold.
Due to the nature of the bronze, the gong can react with its surroundings and (partially) tarnish, especially when exposed to moisture. This is a natural process and also occurs during regular use with mallets and by touching with hands and fingers if the gong or the mallet used to play the gong is not cleaned regularly. However, any patina that may develop on the metal has no effect on the sound characteristics of the gong. The gong should only be played with suitable mallets in order to maintain the quality of the material and sound.
Each of our gongs undergoes several quality checks so that material and processing defects can be ruled out and a corresponding sound quality can be guaranteed. Once the gong has been checked, you will always find our Hess Sound quality seal inside, which identifies the respective quality level ("Premium" or "Classic"). The respective packaging is provided with an EAN code, we pack our gongs for shipping with the materials already used for import and in recycled cardboard boxes.
The gong should be struck carefully and not too loudly, as its sound volume can be perceived as unpleasant if it is not played at a sufficient distance from the ear. The gong can be played by people of all ages, but due to its loudness, weight and metal nature, it should only be played by children under adult supervision until they have learned how to use it safely. Care should always be taken to ensure that the gong is securely positioned within a suitable stand, as some examples are naturally quite heavy. In addition, children in particular should pay attention to the intensity with which the gong is struck and/or the distance to the instrument, as the instrument can generate a high sound pressure that can be harmful to the hearing.
In addition to their actual use as relaxation, meditation, music or therapy instruments, gongs can also be used for decorative purposes.
If the gong tips over or falls to the floor with or from its stand, it may break or crack due to the inherent tension in the material. If this happens, you can contact us for information on how to handle the instrument afterwards so that it remains playable. If the gong is irreparably damaged, it can be returned to Hess Sound GmbH & Co. KG - we will then take care of the disposal.
Gong stand
These instructions on product safety serve to ensure the sustainable handling of our gong stands.
Our gong stands are handcrafted using ecologically certified and oiled beech hardwood. The individual sizes of the gong stands are differentiated by height (58cm - 157cm) and width (58cm - 148cm) and vary between 2kg and 13.5kg in weight.
Since each gong stand is a unique handcrafted item, slight deviations from our website or catalog photos are possible in terms of visual characteristics (wood color) or parameters defined by us (diameter, weight).
Every gong stand undergoes a quality control process so that material and processing errors can be ruled out. The packaging is provided with an EAN code, we pack our gong stands for shipping with padding flakes made from potato starch and in recycled cardboard boxes.
If possible, two people should be involved in assembling the three-piece gong stand so that the elements can be securely put together. No tools are required for this. Before a gong is hung in the gong stand, the holding hooks should be checked again to ensure that they are securely fastened. The gong stand should only be used for hanging gongs and should always be stored in a dry place to ensure that the material remains strong.
If the gong stand is damaged, you are welcome to contact us for information on parts that may need to be replaced. The gong stand can be easily disposed of as waste wood once the screwed metal hooks have been removed.
